ROSEMARY CONNELLY ART
ABOUT ME
Watercolor was my first love, although I also work in acrylics, collage, and mixed media. Playful use of line and color are hallmarks of my painting style and I find joy and inspiration in historic towns, aging factories and barns, botanicals, and abstract patterns.
I lived in Italy with my late husband Bob, a photographer, where we fulfilled our dream, to "live cheap and make art." My memoir Two Years in Italy is available on Amazon in hardcover, paperback and eBook. Travel remains an integral part of my life and work.

My paintings been included in shows at Peninsula Gallery in Lewes, Station Gallery in Greenville, and Biggs Museum in Dover, DE. I practice and teach the art of Watercolor Journaling and Urban Sketching and have taught workshops throughout Delaware and beyond.

I studied fine art, drawing, painting and graphic design at Arizona State University and for over 20 years I worked as a professional graphic designer. I am a board member of Mispillion Art League in Milford, DE, a member of Rehoboth Art League, a founding member of Urban Sketchers Delaware, and for five years, I was Chair for The Big Draw Festival DE, part of the world's biggest celebration of drawing presented by Mispillion Art League.

In this workshop, you will learn how to incorporate drawing, painting and writing in a blank journal, in a way that delights and inspires. Whatever your level of experience, I will show you how to slow down, to really look at the world around you and capture what you see and feel as they draw, paint and write in your journals. I provide a relaxed, inspiring, and encouraging atmosphere for all levels - from beginner to more experienced artist.

SATURDAY 31 MAY 2025
Ragusa Ibla and Ragusa Superiore
Ragusa enchants with its Baroque charm, offering picturesque streets and elegant churches. In the historic heart of Ragusa Ibla, the Cathedral of San Giorgio and the noble palaces tell stories of a glorious past. We will start with the “1860 Tour” to experience four unmissable experiences in Ragusa Ibla and savor the beauty of timeless places: the Conversation Club, the Theatre Donnafugata, the Palace Arezzo di Trifiletti and the artistic workshop Cinabro Carrettieri. The upper part of Ragusa boasts the impressive Cathedral of San Giovanni, another local treasure.
SUNDAY 1 JUNE 2025
Scicli
A gem with houses flowing along the hillsides, sprinkled with dozens of churches, Scicli’s unique atmosphere is nothing short of inspirational. The Church of San Matteo dominates the city from above, offering breathtaking panoramic views and a lasting impression of its historical heritage. Our tour guide will explain Scicli’s history and we’ll have our choice of many places from which to paint.
MONDAY 2 JUNE 2025
Ancient olive trees & local artists
The second of June is a holiday in Italy, so we thought it would be a perfect time to invite some local artists to join us. We’ll experience the timeless beauty of Sicily with a visit to its ancient olive trees from a field overlooking Ragusa. These majestic trees, centuries old, stand as living monuments to the island's rich agricultural heritage. A picnic lunch will be served in nearby Ragusa Ibla’s park, followed by gelato in the piazza. We’ll also finish our 1860 tour. The local artists will join us for “apericena” at the hotel: an informal dinner of tasty appetizers.
TUESDAY 3 JUNE 2025
Marina di Ragusa
Enjoy the charming seaside town, which offers golden sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters perfect for relaxation. The promenade is lined with cafes, restaurants, and shops, creating a vibrant atmosphere. Tuesday morning is “market day” in Marina. Those interested can walk through colorful “bancarelle” selling food, clothing and household goods. We’ll begin our day with breakfast in the piazza, and then relax on beach chairs. Lunch will be served at Rosemary’s favorite local restaurant.
WEDNESDAY 4 JUNE 2025
Valle dei Templi, Agrigento
The Valley of the Temples, Agrigento, is an unforgettable destination. The majestic Doric temples, such as the Temple of Concordia and the Temple of Juno, showcase the magnificence of the ancient Greek city of Akragas. The views will astound you. We will dine at a special restaurant above the temples and return to Ragusa with our tummies and hearts full. Once again, choosing where to sketch will be a delightful challenge.
THURSDAY 5 JUNE 2025
Castello di Donnafugata
A local treasure, this 19th century castle was constructed by a playful baron who had traveled the world and brought it back to Ragusa to delight his friends. Legend has it that they changed the planned tracks for the new trainline to allow his guests easier access to the grounds. The extensive park surrounding the castle has reproductions of his travels, including a labyrinth, caves with stalagmites and stalactites, and a Hindu temple. Inside the castle, you’ll find a museum of vintage clothing. A short walk away is an ancient necropolis.
FRIDAY 6 JUNE 2025
Modica
A city of chocolate and art, Modica captivates with its refined Baroque style. Its streets are filled with wonders, including the Church of San Giorgio and the impressive Castle of the Counts. The famous Modica chocolate, granular rather than milk-based, is a curiosity not to be missed. We will take a tour at a traditional chocolate factory, rumored to use an Aztek recipe brought back from Christopher Columbus’ trips to America.
SATURDAY 7 JUNE 2025
Relax, Swim & Pack
Our final day will be spent at the Dimora. Brunch will be served to allow us to sleep in. Sharing of sketchbook work and experiences will round out your art experience.
